In August 2009, I was approached by Abraham Guest High School about being a tutor for an evening class to teach Cake Decorating.  I accepted their offer, and am currently tutoring 2 evenings per week.

The itinerary for the year was as follows:

  • Term 1, the students learnt just enough to make their own christmas cake.
  • Term 2, the students were introduced to royal icing.  Some of them liked it, and some of them didn't!  But at least they now have a choice of whether to do cakes with fondant icing or royal icing.
  • Term 3, the students learnt how to make flowers and flower sprays, and then had an introduction to tiered cakes.

Below is a gallery of all the cakes the students made throughout the year.

And my own personal message to them ... Congratulations class of 2010!  It has been a joy teaching you, and we had a lot of laughs along the way.  I look forward to September and teaching you for a fourth term.

Term 1 will be starting again for new students in September, and if you are interested in mastering cake decoration, please contact the school for more information or to register for the course.

I also tutor students at my shop on a private one-to-one basis. Should private lessons interest you, then please feel free to contact myself (details on the contact page).

Here are the student's cakes!
